Daddy is not as young as he thinks he is...

In July my Daddy went on a mission trip with some of the youth from the church. When he left he was a happy leg-shaving, bike-riding active 39 year old man who thought that he could drink from the fountain of youth by hanging around a bunch of teenagers.

During the work camp Daddy tried to play basketball with the youth. If you know my Daddy or my uncle Randy all that they ever did as kids was practice layups. Well, to hear Daddy tell the story, he drove to the paint and jumped up for a powerful score when all of a sudden there was a deafening popping sound after which Daddy fell to the ground. I don't know what the big deal is. I fall down all the time and my diaper serves as a nice cushion.

Well, come to find out, Daddy tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and had to have surgery so that someday he can teach me to ski and ride a bike and continue taking me hiking. On the morning of August 27 Daddy posed for his last picture before the surgery. He looks happy to me.
When I got home from daycare that day Daddy didn't look so good. He had funny socks covering his whole leg, a big blue tube connected to an ice cooler and he talked funny and was very sleepy. And so I did my very best to entertain Daddy for the two weeks that our family virtually lived in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom. Speaking of Mommy, God bless her!I did lots of things to entertain Daddy: I crawled on him and slept on him and watched his leg moving machine. It was a lot of fun!I also tried to encourage Daddy by eating some ice cream--Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia! Man, that stuff is good; I don't know why we don't eat that for every meal.
I have also tried to serve as an inspiration to Daddy by showing him how easy it is to stand up and move around and bend the knee is as many ways as possible. I sure hope he gets better soon.

Sadie's visit

One week when my daddy was out of town, I got to spend the whole week with my cousin Sadie! We had soooo much fun!

Even when it was sprinkling outside, we still got to go swimming...

We went to the zoo with a lot of mommy's friends, had a picnic - and I got to try McDonald's fries!

I had a lot of kids paying attention to me and wanting to push me around from one animal to the next. They all decided to do it at the same time! What great kids!

Abuelita and the kids even rode a camel! I was too little this time, but one day...

The Dog Days of Summer

Sometimes I eat to much that I get soooo sleepy....

Mommy and Daddy thought it would great fun to go to different museums this summer. I got to see Billy the Kid's old stuff, then there were all these huge dinosaurs - their teeth were so scary! But you know - my favorite things are definitely balls!
Then the next best thing is to fall asleep on daddy!
I think spaghetti is really best when you smash it everywhere!
Some friends gave me this jumpy thing and boy do I love to jump and sing! Daddy even played his guitar and we had a little concert. Now that was fun!

I do like when my abuelita visits. She and I get along just great! She does all sorts of cool stuff with me.

My abuelita gave me antennaes (but I know I can't spell it right!). That is the straightest my hair has ever been!
This summer I had some really big times filled with lots of visitors, lots of hair styles and lots of adventures. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Celebrating Independence

When the Powers family comes to visit we always have such fun! We spent time at the zoo and I loved watching the lorikeets land all over Kyla, David, Sam, Sheryl, Mom and Dad. In addition to the zoo we also went hiking in the mountains and we went all the way up to the natural hot springs where we all played in the water. After the hot springs we hiked some more more and Sam took Kyla and David up to the precipice of a high rock. I would include some pictures, but they might encourage other youngsters to attempt these dangerous acts without the supervision of an adult. We all had a lot of fun. Thanks for visiting!

My Skills at 8 Months

I am 8 months old and I can scoot around the house and babble a lot as I tell mommy and daddy stories of daycare and other adventures. I am also very proud of my two bottom teeth which I use to eat my favorite foods; bananas and avocados. Speaking of eating, I can now sit in my high chair and feed myself. While I eat I also enjoy seeing which foods are most effective as conditioner as I smash each food into my hair.
